What is Long Position in A Stock?

In a Long Position also referred to as Buy Position, investors hold stock positions in the expectation that the stock price 23 will rise, to profit from the difference between lower buying price and higher selling price. Long stock purchase is the typical stock purchase in stock markets unlike shorting in short selling.

In a Long Stock Transaction you are exposed to the risk of decline of the stock that can be limited by setting stop loss (limit) orders through your online broker's trading platform. The upside potential is unlimited unless you set take-profit orders.

In Long Position Traders Expect Profit Out Of Price Rising LONG POSITION

Unlike investors with mid- to long-term time horizon that often keep their long positions for extended period of time, weeks, month or even years, Day Traders (who actually are speculators) may close their Long Positions (put another way they sell their stocks) in very short time, within hours, minutes or even seconds.
